The Confrontation

The Confrontation

"The Fight" by Richard Wright was about a boy that was starting a new school and how he felt like he knew that he was going to need to fight in order to survive the school year. The story takes place in the school yard when the boy is outside he realizes that the other kids that were in his school was staring at him from across the playground. The narrator starts to back up to lean on the wall so that the boys would not realize his uneasiness and would pick on him and that he was nervous. The boys then proceeded to walk across the playground and started to bother the boy. When he was getting talked to by the other kids he didn't back down taking verbal blows and dishing back out to the boys the same verbal blows.

"The Confrontation"by Raymond Barrio was about a guy named Manuel that worked as a fruit packer. in this story they explain that Manuel had felt trapped in a maze of trees and high piles of boxes and crates. The author in the story explains how Manuel compares himself to an animal trapped a brute savage. The reasons being for this comparison was that he was confined by his surroundings neat rows of apricot tress to the blackest bars on a jail. Manuel's whole reason for being was that he didn't care,he took advantage of his own people they did not have to pick fruit. The reason that Manuel didn't have a fight was because the guero's didn't show up to the field. Manuel would pay for the defiance not because the bosses will make him but because he stood up for himself and others.

The comparison between the two stories are that they both involved fights with other members of their community. Both of the stories have problems where the person has to stand up for their self and not let the other people get the best of them. Each character in each story and very different back rounds both but have the same similarities that they would have to stand up for there selfs no matter what they face and who the problem is.
