IRONY
The definition of IRONY is the "meaning hypocrisy, deception,or feigned ignorance is a situation, literary technique, or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance that goes strikingly beyond the most simple evident meaning of words or actions. Verbal and situational irony is often intentionally used as emphasis in an assertion of a truth. The ironic form of simile, irony used in sarcasm, and some forms of litotes may involve the emphasis of one's meaning by deliberate use of language that states the direct opposite of the truth, or drastically and obviously understates a factual connection". Irony takes a place in my life is my height because I'm 6"7 and I wear a size 16 in shoes I can't buy all the sneakers I like out there cause either there extremely expensive or they don't get made in my size. The definition to irony for me means that there are certain things in life that can be ironic like an example can be if super man who is a super hero isn't it ironic that he goes killing people if hes suppose to be saving peoples life's. irony means basically doing one thing or mad for one thing but doing something that totally in left field from what you suppose to be doing. The irony in "Richard Cory " by Edwin Arlington Robinson shows how he was rich and had money but yet he killed himself ("To make us wish that we were in his place"). All the people wanted to be like him and have what he had but yet he killed himself ("And he was rich--yes, richer than a king-- but then Went home and put a bullet through his head"). This poem shows that even when he had everything in the world you still not happy and that even being rich and lead him to a depression that caused to kill himself and want not to be alive if he has no one to share it with and I'm all alone. This poem shows that its ironic that even when you have everything in the world he still wont be happy. The part of the poem that shows this is when it stated And he was rich--yes, richer than a king-- but then Went home and put a bullet through his head. This act shows irony in the poem because if he had everything in the world that makes him happy why would he go and ended his own life. "The Gift of the Magi" BY O. HENRY show the subject of irony by displaying how both the husband,Mr. James Dillingham Young and wife,Mrs. James Dillingham Young, Mr. James Dillingham Young gave up Mr. James Dillingham Young watch to buy Mrs. James Dillingham Young a comb set for Mrs. James Dillingham Young hair hair or watch that was important to their life but yet they both sold what was important to them in order to buy each other a gift the wife bought Mr. James Dillingham Young a chain to put the watch that Mr. James Dillingham Young grandfather gave Mr. James Dillingham Young on and Mr. James Dillingham Young bought Mrs. James Dillingham Young a comb set so that Mrs. James Dillingham Young can take care of Mrs. James Dillingham Young beautiful hair and brush it. Then the wife had no reason the comb he bought because Mrs. James Dillingham Young had cut her hair off and Mr. James Dillingham Young had no need for the chain Mrs. James Dillingham Young bought Mr. James Dillingham Young cause Mr. James Dillingham Young had sold his grandfathers watch in order to buy Mrs. James Dillingham Young the Christmas gift that Mr. James Dillingham Young had bought here for Mrs. James Dillingham Young hair. The ironic behavior in "The House that Slaves Built" by Gardiner Harris shows how the White House was but by slaves for white people to live in it as presidents and now over 200 years later a black family lives there as president to the country and they hold the same power the whites did so now the White House is no longer a symbol for white supremacy. It also shows how black people weren't allowed in the White House as guess so when Frederick Douglass was allowed in the house people criticized that choose the was made by Teddy Roosevelt. I choose my back ground on my assignment to show ironic because the black car got stopped by the police and if i looked at his license plate it reads HEYOFFCR which means the driver knew that one day he would get stopped so why not buy a license plate telling the police hi.
Irony is when something shows something is expected and the opposite happens we got a work sheet showing life savers
the candy and two ants but one of the ants was dead under the life savers so the irony in that was how it was called
life savers but yet it killed an ant. The irony in "The Gift of the Magi" BY O. HENRY shows how both the husband
and wife gave up the things they loved to get their other half Christmas gifts then to find out that the stuff they
gave up was in vain because then they ended up buying things that pertain to their favorite thing for each other but
they no longer had those things. The definition to irony for me means that there are certain things in life that
just are the opposite of what really happens.
